Commercial and domestic rewiring

Electrical rewiring can be full or partial – we’ll identify the best approach for your needs, with honest, transparent advice as standard.

Full rewire – if your wiring is old and perished (in other words, dangerous!), or if your installation requires numerous new sockets, a full rewire could be in order. All of our electrical rewiring services are tested and certified to the 17th edition regulations (BS7671). For domestic properties, most circuits need to be RCD protected, which requires replacement of the existing fuse box with a new, high-integrity consumer unit that incorporates at least 2 RCDs. All earthing and bonding will be fully checked prior to sign-off.

Partial rewire/lighting rewire – in older properties where lighting circuits were installed with the (at that time) new plastic cables, they were usually lacking an earth wire. As regulations have moved on, these older lighting circuits are no longer compliant, not to mention unsafe! Replacement consumer units are usually part of this rewiring process.

If you wish us to undertake electrical rewiring at your home or premises, here’s some extra information that you may find useful:

• Full domestic rewiring projects generally take between a week and ten days to complete – commercial rewires depend on the size of the premises, but we’ll give you an idea of what to expect after a full survey.
• We can isolate different areas as we work, enabling us to keep any disruption to a minimum and ensure that much of your power is left on for the duration.
• Rewiring is an extensive undertaking, so please expect to see our electricians working in every room of your property, including the requirement for access in loft areas and even under floorboards in most cases!
• Every rewiring project will be fully tested and certified, with the provision of NICEIC certification and notification to building control, who’ll also issue you with certificate – keep hold of these, as they’re very useful if you wish to sell your property in the future!

Electrical testing, Leeds and Wakefield

If you’re local to us and require electrical testing, or EICR, we’re here to help. While this isn’t something high on most people’s list of priorities, electrical testing should be carried out every ten years, at the very least – and in some circumstances, as soon as three months after the last installation test.

Your mains board/fuse unit should have a note of when your electrics were last tested, so if you’re not sure when your next test is due, check now – don’t leave your safety to chance! If there’s no date visible, it’s worth arranging your fixed wire testing as soon as possible.

Portable appliance testing, or PAT testing

We’re all aware of the dangers that poor quality electrical wiring or components can present, but it’s not just your mains system that needs keeping in check.

Having your portable appliances tested can be a Health & Safety requirement if you’re a commercial operation, as you need to ensure that staff, clients and visitors are protected from danger. Having these tests carried out periodically could prove to be a great investment – and much cheaper than a hefty compensation claim.
